Class Information

Our Classes

At Michaelchurch Escley Primary School, we are proud of our small, nurturing school community where every child is known, valued and supported as an individual. Across all classes, learning is rooted in experiential, hands‑on activities that spark curiosity, build confidence and encourage children to become active, independent learners.

🌱 Preschool (Age 2+)

Our Preschool provides a warm, caring and stimulating environment for children from the age of two. We focus on building strong foundations for learning through play‑based, experiential experiences that support personal, social and emotional development.

Children are encouraged to explore, investigate and make sense of the world around them, with activities carefully planned to reflect their interests and next steps. Our nurturing approach helps children develop confidence, independence and a love of learning, ensuring they feel happy, safe and ready for the transition into school.

“ Our brains are built to benefit from play no matter our age.”

Theresa A. Kestly

We believe children learn best through play. We want children to become curious, confident and happy learners, so we follow the principles of The Curiosity Approach. By providing a calm, nurturing environment full of authentic, open-ended resources, we allow the children to use their imaginations, explore, create and make connections between their experiences and the world around them at their own pace. Invitations to play are set up for the children to explore, using loose and many natural parts to further develop children’s creative and critical thinking. â€‹

You will find us outside in all weathers – come rain or shine, wind or snow. Not just in our preschool garden or the ‘Spinney’, but out and about in the local area, stomping through streams, rolling down hills, jumping in the muddiest puddles all whilst learning to respect the beautiful land and nature that we find ourselves immersed in. You can be sure that the saying ‘ there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes’ is taken quite literally here at Michaelchurch Preschool!

🌰 Acorn Class

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Acorn Class is a welcoming and inclusive classroom for our youngest pupils. Learning is creative, practical and engaging, with a strong emphasis on early skills, exploration and discovery.

Through a rich mix of continuous provision, structured lessons and outdoor learning, children are supported to develop key skills in communication and those across the curriculum. We value each child’s uniqueness and support them to grow socially, emotionally and academically in a safe and encouraging environment.
